R4 Card is basically a particular kind of storage device that is used specifically for DSi and Nintendo DS units of the video game. R4 Cards are for the devices like the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DS Lite which will enable one to not only to play games but also to enjoy music & read books. This card has opened a door towards in-numerous other possibilities for the device.
This card has almost same size of a normal Nintendo DS Cartridge. A slot for Micro –SD card is made at the rear end of this R4 cards. One will find games, firmware, MP3, applications and etc in this Micro-SD card that one would like to have inside their R4 card.
When one is booting up their Nintendo DS R4 device they will find a menu for this card also. The menu has option for one to choose either Multimedia or Games. One will have to buy R4 card to play amateur-created and homebrew games. On the top of this card one will find a small slot through which one can push inside the Micro SD card. This slot is made with use of the spring mechanism keeping in mind that the Micro SD Card gets locked inside the allotted space. If one pushes again the micro sd card will come out from the card (R4).
